Why I Decided to Take Outdoor Yoga Classes

In Singapore, everything seems to be on fast track. Whether it be in school, at work, and sometimes, even at home. Like most people, I didn't even know I'm already fatigued from working too much until my body gave up into a fever. My doctor said that I'm spending way too much on my working desk that it took a toll on my body.

After resting for 3 days, which I thought then was such a waste of time off work, my best friend invited me to attend a yoga class with her at Pasir Ris Town Park. She said it will be a great start of a healthy-conscious living.

Well, I wasn't so convinced back then, but because the park was just around the corner of our place, I decided to get some trial classes.

Peaceful Outdoor Environment

Our first session was on a very early morning of Sunday. Yes, early morning. The class was from 7 am to 8 am at the park. It's a good thing that I live just a few blocks away so getting on time wasn't a big problem. We brought along out yoga mats and water bottles.

It was my first yoga experience, so I didn't really know what to expect. But the first thing that I noticed was that it felt great to breathe in the fresh morning air. I didn't think that a simple thing such as this can be very satisfactory. Being outdoor under the morning sun or under the shade of a tree is revitalizing.

I regret those times that I spent most of my weekends indoors and sleeping until 12 noon, which is not very productive.

Great Way to Relax with Nature

There is something about the trees and the grass that makes our yoga class special. Every pose that was taught to us made me feel very relaxed. I noticed that the gestures and poses have something to do with nature, which I think is very soothing. The yoga teacher would tell us to reach down to earth where we can see and touch the grass. Then we would put our hands toward the sky and gaze at those birds crossing our sight. Deep breaths accompanied those poses, and they become more calming.

I remembered those indoor yoga classes and the ones I see within apartment compounds, and I thought that our outdoor yoga classes at the park seem a lot better, at least for me. I now understand why yoga classes in Singapore are very popular.

Replenished Energy

After attending two trial classes, I noticed that I'm becoming less and less agitated at work. I started to feel alert and have more focus on my tasks. I can now finish most of my workload on time and without too much tension.

Thinking back, my old way consisted of always thinking too much. That is why stress has sadly become a part of my daily routine. I was happy to break free from that bad cycle.

The Verdict

I decided to attend more yoga classes and it was life-changing! I'm continuously learning to manage my mood and I am now handling stress at work more effectively. At times when I really need some relaxation, I would enroll in private yoga classes to have a more exclusive session.
